Square Enix went over the new Final Fantasy XIV Coins currency used for things like subscriptions that the Switch 2 version of FFXIV and its expansions through Dawntrail are available. These will be purchased from the eShop. However, as the subscription will be waved for about a month after launch as the company ensures the MMORPG is running properly, that currency will only be used for account services and Online Store optional items at the moment. No Nintendo Switch Online subscription is required to play, though there is a perk for people who have one and are going through the game. Square Enix didn’t explain what the exchange rate will be for FFXIV Coins on the Switch 2 in its announcement. It only noted that will be the way people will need to pay for things tied to real money in the MMORPG. When someone buys them on the eShop, they will be credited to a Square Enix Account. Those could then be used on Mog Station or to get things like mounts, cosmetics, Home World Transfer Services, Character Renaming Services, Fantasia, or Tales of Adventure in the Online Store. It also noted that, in order to be sure the currency shows in your account, someone would need to close the MMORPG after buying them and log in again. The Nintendo Switch Online Perk doesn’t require any additional in-game actions or purchases. The bonus lets someone get another free Aetheryte as a free destination. The base game is $19.99. There is also a Complete Edition for $59.99 that includes all expansions and Dawntrail. The Complete Collector’s Edition is $139.99 and goes up through Dawntrail and has all of the original collector’s edition items from the main MMORPG and expansions.
