Bird-watching at feeders is a fun and fairly easy pastime, but baby-bird-watching? That can be a bit of a challenge. Birds tend to build their nests where nosy onlookers can’t get to them, and they rarely announce moments like egg-laying or hatching. I have several nest boxes in my yard, but even those are a mystery, unless you can see inside them. That’s what Wi-Fi–enabled camera nest boxes or birdhouses do. They allow you to peek inside a bird family’s domain, like you’re watching a feathered version of The Truman Show.Last year I tried a smart birdhouse, the Birdfy Nest Ebony, and I was delighted to watch the progress of a bluebird family, from building a nest to fledging chicks. So this year I set it up again, hoping the magic would repeat. I also set up two other Birdfy birdhouses to see if their added features would make a difference to the birds or to my enjoyment of them.
