Two Short Setups To Make A Living (NY Trend and NY HOD Reversal)E-mini Dow Jones Industrial Average Index FuturesCBOT_MINI:YM1!FOMC_GodThese two are my favorite short setups on Dow Jones Futures in the New York Session. They are Trend Continuation and New York High of Day Reversal. In this post I will focus first on Bearish Trend Continuations and leave the High of Day Reversals for another date. I am using the 15-minute chart only to avoid analysis paralysis. It is either these setups, or it is not. It is actually using the daily chart as all price action contained within Asia to NY close is one daily candlestick. I avoid the first 30 minutes after NY opens as 8am is the best strike zone. I am using Mountain Time 07:30am New York open. Both of these setups only use two indicators, the daily opening price in cyan blue line and the 20sma. I encourage you to really study these and to only trade the easiest setups. So easy it is almost impossible to lose. Why mess around with no edge days getting chopped up when you can sit and wait for the market to whisper to you that money is coming your way. Only 45% of all trading days have any edge to them. 55% of all trading days are zero edge garbage. It is your job to hit the good days and avoid the trash. The garbage days is where damage is done. Tilt, chop, revenge trade etc.. Overtrading is the number one cause of unprofitability. Out of the 250 or so trading days in a year, only roughly 100-120 or so have actual edge. If you are taking more than 100 trades per year, I can guarantee you that your results are not good. There are roughly 30-60 clean short setups PER YEAR. Now on to the setups Bearish Trend Continuations: In a trending setup, the key rule is you want to be entering AT/NEAR the 20 period moving average. If you made it this far, then congratulations. I want you to ask yourself. If you had just traded these 40 days only throughout the year and NOTHING else in between, how much better would your results have been? I want to stress the importance of not going to the market everyday "looking" for trades because price is moving. This is not the way to do it. Just like McDonald's has the same cookie cutter approach to the Big Mac, so should you with your setups. Overtrading movement is the number one killer of accounts.
