Tamil Nadu police intensify crackdown on rowdies, drug offenders - The HinduPublished - June 14, 2026 12:49 am IST - CHENNAIThe police have conducted a Statewide crackdown on history-sheeters, habitual offenders, narcotics offenders, and absconding accused as part of a preventive policing drive.The operation was carried out on the instructions of Director-General of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal.Between May 28 and June 10, continuous surveillance and verification drives targeting history-sheeters and non-history-sheet offenders were carried out across the State.During the drive, the police verified the details of 36,740 history-sheeters, and 1,328 among them were arrested and remanded in judicial custody. During the special drive on non-bailable warrant (NBW) execution from June 1 to June 10, 2,939 NBWs have been executed through sustained enforcement efforts. Efforts are also being undertaken for the execution of pending NBWs and securing the absconding accused.The police teams have seized 231 kg of ganja and 4,073 narcotic tablets, including 22.55 g of methamphetamine, 0.006 g of MDMA, and 362.5 kg of gutkha product.
