Charlie Adam has revealed that Italian giants AC Milan tried to sign him in the 2011 January window – seven months before he moved to Liverpool.Adam was instrumental for Blackpool following his initial loan arrival from Rangers in February 2009.Charlie Adam left Blackpool for Liverpool in 2011Getty Images - GettyThe Tangerines then secured Premier League promotion in the 2009/10 season as they beat Cardiff in the Championship play-off final – a match in which Adam scored.And the Scot enjoyed a fine debut campaign in England’s top-tier, as he chipped in with 12 goals and eight assists.His performances in a Blackpool shirt caught the eye of Liverpool, and he’d go on to join the Reds in 2011.“Do you remember the moment you found out for the first time that Liverpool wanted to sign you?,” Sam Ellard asked Adam on the World Cup Weekender on Saturday afternoon.“Yeah, it was late November, December [2010] was the first real time that I had an inkling of when we were going to go,” Adam replied.“It was when we’d just been promoted and obviously the January window was coming up. “That January they signed [Andy] Carroll and [Luis] Suarez.“To get that opportunity to go to Liverpool was special.”However, it wasn’t just Liverpool that were interested in the former midfielder, as Adam continued: “I had a couple offers to go to other clubs as well in that January.“I had the opportunity go to to Spurs. It was surreal really.“At that time, they had some world-class players.”Adam elaborated on the potential deal, adding: “It was just an Italian agent who spoke to my agent to say, ‘What’s the deal How would it look?’“It was just so difficult to make it happen. With the Oystons in charge at Blackpool at the time, it was a tough moment.“And again, it was something as a player I’d learned in development.”AC Milan did strengthen in midfield that same window as they brought in Urby Emanuelson from Ajax and Mark van Bommel on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.Adam made 179 appearances for Stoke after departing AnfieldGettyAdam, meanwhile, spent just one season with Liverpool before moving to Stoke City in 2012, where he spent seven years.The 40-year-old then joined Reading in 2019 and boyhood club Dundee in 2020 before retiring in 2022.
