It was surreal really.“At that time, they had some world-class players.”Adam elaborated on the potential deal, adding: “It was just an Italian agent who spoke to my agent to say, ‘What’s the deal How would it look?’“It was just so difficult to make it happen. With the Oystons in charge at Blackpool at the time, it was a tough moment.“And again, it was something as a player I’d learned in development.”AC Milan did strengthen in midfield that same window as they brought in Urby Emanuelson from Ajax and Mark van Bommel on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.Adam made 179 appearances for Stoke after departing AnfieldGettyAdam, meanwhile, spent just one season with Liverpool before moving to Stoke City in 2012, where he spent seven years.The 40-year-old then joined Reading in 2019 and boyhood club Dundee in 2020 before retiring in 2022.
