Prime Minister Robert Abela has said that irregular migration will be one of the main topics discussed by European leaders ahead of a European Council meeting, alongside competitiveness and the ongoing war in Ukraine.Speaking in a video shared before the meeting, Abela said leaders had already discussed competitiveness and received presentations related to Ukraine and Russia, including one from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He also revealed that a number of European leaders would be holding discussions with the European Commission on irregular migration before the formal Council meeting begins.Abela described migration as a major issue for Europe, saying current migratory pressures require countries to continue strengthening control measures while reducing the burden on member states. The Prime Minister added that Malta would be sharing its own experience on migration during the discussions. He noted that migration remains high on Europe’s agenda and said intensive talks on the subject are expected to continue throughout the day, with further discussions planned in the lead-up to future European Council meetings later this year.Do you agree with Malta’s approach to migration?Image: Robert Abela View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lovin Malta (@lovinmalta)•
