David Ornstein has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in signing one of the Premier League’s most highly-rated young midfielders this summer. It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Tottenham want to strengthen in midfield this summer, particularly following the uncertainty surrounding Joao Palhinha’s future, Yves Bissouma’s departure and growing interest from Brentford in Pape Matar Sarr.Spurs have already been heavily linked with Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is reportedly open to joining Tottenham despite interest from the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City. Much of that is believed to be down to Roberto De Zerbi’s influence, with the Italian coach making the Newcastle star his priority target.A deal for Tonali would not come cheap, with reports suggesting Newcastle could demand around £100 million for the midfielder. While there has been no formal approach yet, Tottenham’s interest appears genuine. Now, another highly-rated Premier League midfielder has emerged on the club’s radar as De Zerbi looks to reshape his options in the centre of the park.Photo by Rob Newell – CameraSport via Getty ImagesTottenham join battle for Mateus Fernandes amid growing interest from Europe’s eliteAccording to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham are among the clubs interested in West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The report claims that De Zerbi admires the 21-year-old and is pushing internally for Spurs to explore a move. West Ham are believed to value Fernandes at around £80 million following an impressive campaign in which he registered 7 goal contributions in the Premier League. The Portuguese midfielder is viewed as one of the Hammers’ most valuable assets and is expected to play a major role in helping the club raise the £150m they reportedly need following their relegation to the Championship. However, Tottenham are far from alone in the race, given Manchester United are said to have already held talks over the midfielder, with Michael Carrick reportedly viewing him as an ideal partner for Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes following Casemiro’s departure. European champions Paris Saint-Germain and Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid are also credited with interest in the former Southampton man.🚨 Tottenham Hotspur among clubs keen on signing Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United – separate to #THFC pursuit of Sandro Tonali. De Zerbi is believed to admire both players and would ideally like to see each become part of his midfield rebuild. That said, signing both would represent an enormous financial commitment. Between Fernandes’ reported £80 million valuation and Tonali’s potential £100 million price tag, Tottenham could be looking at close to £180 million on midfielders alone. That is difficult to imagine without at least one significant departure in the midfield. Spurs still need reinforcements in other areas, including goalkeeper, left wing and striker, while the club have already committed around £52 million to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. There is also the question of squad development. Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall remain two of Tottenham’s brightest young talents, and bringing in two elite midfielders could make their path to regular football considerably more difficult, especially with no European competition next season.READ MORE: Micky van de Ven lends Ven Hecke a Tottenham shirt to film his first video to fansThe post Tottenham want to sign £80m Real Madrid target and Sandro Tonali together, De Zerbi is pushing for both appeared first on Spurs Web.
