A magnitude 2.9 earthquake near Newman, East Pilbara, Western Australia, Australia, was reported only 16 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth of 4.4 miles beneath the epicenter in the morning on Sunday, June 21st, 2026, at 10:08 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.Our monitoring service identified a second report from the citizen-seismograph network of RaspberryShake which listed the quake at magnitude 2.9 as well. A third agency, Geoscience Australia (GeoAu), reported the same quake at magnitude 2.9.According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage.
