I mentioned that same thing to the worker who asked if I had proof, and she rolled her eyes and said "I know, it's ridiculous, but we have to go by what the computer says". In the end, THEY contacted my former employers (two were long term jobs I'd been in for years, 3 were temp jobs in my field I took for the experience) and got the verification they needed, but it was ONE day too late to get food stamps. She said I could reapply, but they'd run my insurance again. In theory, they are up to date on my work history, and I would just need to interview again, but I'm really worried that something will screw up again. They're just looking for reasons to deny people these days. Right now, I'm incredibly sick, so I'm not working at all (so I guess they'll need me to get a letter from my last employer). I was in the hospital just a week ago, and I don't have the energy to go sit outside the DES office for 1.5 hours before they open (I'd rather wait outside for 1.5 hours than wait inside for 3, I try to be the first person there, and you gotta line up early) and try to get this taken care of. When I'm feeling better I'll probably do it, since I just spent $160 on grocery delivery yesterday.
