Visitors heading to Comino’s Blue Lagoon this summer will once again need to book their visit in advance, with authorities confirming that no more than 4,000 people will be allowed on site during each time slot. The Malta Tourism Authority announced that the booking system introduced last year is back in force following renewed concerns about overcrowding at one of Malta’s most popular attractions. The concerns were amplified earlier this month after a TikTok posted by an Italian tourist showed the Blue Lagoon packed with visitors, attracting more than 214,000 views and reigniting debate around overcrowding on the small island. In the video, the tourist described Comino as “beautiful but there’s no room to breathe”, while the Malta Ranger Unit also weighed in on the discussion, warning about the environmental impact of mass tourism on the protected site.Visitors can reserve a free spot online through bluelagooncomino.mt or at dedicated information booths by selecting one of three daily time slots: 8am to 1pm, 1:30pm to 5:30pm, or 6pm to 10pm.Each booking generates a QR code that must be exchanged for a wristband at the Blue Lagoon’s official entry points. Authorities have warned that people entering without authorisation may face fines. To help visitors plan their trips, the MTA is also setting up eight information booths across Malta and Gozo, including in Sliema, Buġibba, Mellieħa, Ċirkewwa, Marfa and Mġarr. The visitor cap forms part of a wider management strategy aimed at protecting the Blue Lagoon while improving safety and the overall visitor experience.Measures introduced in previous years, including increased enforcement, lifeguards, waste management operations, environmental monitoring and security patrols, will also remain in place throughout the summer.Have you visited Comino yet this summer?•
