Prison authorities are investigating a laptop seized from the cell of convicted murderer Adrian Agius, also known as ‘Ta’ Maksar’, after security seals designed to prevent unauthorised access were found broken.According to a report by Times of Malta, the laptop was discovered during a random search last week. Agius had permission to possess the device for educational purposes, but prison regulations require all data ports to be physically sealed and prohibit inmates from accessing the internet.Sources claimed that at least one of the laptop’s ports had been exposed after the seals were found damaged.Authorities are now investigating whether the damage was deliberate or the result of wear and tear. Reports have also raised suspicions that the device may have been used to access the internet or communicate externally, although these claims have not been verified. As a precautionary measure, Agius has been transferred to the prison’s maximum-security Division 6 while experts examine the laptop and continue their investigation.A prison spokesperson confirmed that authorities had identified the use of a digital device in breach of prison regulations and said immediate action was taken.Adrian Agius was sentenced to life imprisonment in June 2025 after being found guilty of the murder of lawyer Carmel Chircop.•
