Malta has ranked among the top ten countries in the European Union for bathing water quality, according to the latest report by the European Environment Agency.The report found that 88.5% of Malta’s bathing waters achieved the highest possible “excellent” rating, placing the country ninth across the EU and above the European average of 84.8%.Cyprus topped the ranking with 100% of its bathing waters receiving an excellent rating, followed by Greece and Bulgaria. Malta finished ahead of several popular tourist destinations, including Spain, Croatia and Portugal.Across the European Union, 85% of bathing sites were classified as having excellent water quality, while 96% met the minimum quality standards required for safe bathing.The European Commission said the results reflect decades of investment in wastewater treatment, environmental protection and water management systems across member states.With summer in full swing, the report suggests swimmers in Malta can continue enjoying some of the cleanest bathing waters in Europe.Were you surprised to see Malta rank in the EU’s top ten?•
