Two Maltese BMX riders have flown the flag for Malta at one of the world’s biggest urban sports events.Gianni Zahra and Aaron Grixti represented Malta at the 29th edition of FISE (Festival International des Sports Extrêmes) in Montpellier, France, competing against some of the sport’s top athletes in the BMX Street discipline.Zahra secured an impressive 13th-place finish out of 32 riders, while Grixti placed 17th overall, with both riders delivering strong performances on the international stage.Adding to Malta’s success, Zahra also claimed a joint second-place finish in the BMX Bunny Hop competition, showcasing his versatility across multiple BMX disciplines.The trip offered more than just competition. Following FISE, the riders visited several renowned BMX parks to continue training, gain experience and learn from international athletes.The Maltese delegation also used the opportunity to build connections within the BMX community, exploring potential collaborations and opportunities to bring more riders and events to Malta in the future.Representing Malta at such a prestigious event was a major milestone for both athletes, highlighting the continued growth of the local BMX scene and its ability to compete on the international stage.The Malta BMX Association thanked the Malta Olympic Committee, SportMalta, the Malta Cycling Federation and all supporters who helped make the experience possible.•
