ESPN look set to offer Pat McAfee a huge contract extension. According to various reports, the former NFL punter-turned-media personality is in negotiations over a contract extension with the ‘World Wide Leader’ that could see him command upward of $60 million annually. Pat McAfee is reportedly nearing an extension to his current contract with ESPN which would make him the highest-paid employee in the network’s historyGettyBut Peyton Manning‘s lucrative deal with ESPN from his Omaha Productions is estimated to be in a similar ballpark financially to that of McAfee’s looming pay day. According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic, the money that Omaha brings in from its partnership with ESPN – which runs through 2034 – is ‘crazy’. “There’s been three numbers over the last eight years that, to me, have been like ‘woah’,” he said on a recent episode of his Marchand Sports Media podcast. “First, CBS with Tony Romo for 10-years, $180 million. Next, Fox with Tom Brady and [10-years] $375 million. And now this one [McAfee] which is not completed yet, but is for $60-$65 million per year.“Now ESPN, they’ll say the big difference is that it’s a production deal, not just a straight deal. I think Peyton Manning is in that neighborhood too.“We don’t know Peyton Manning’s exact numbers, but he’s high up there with Omaha Productions. They’re getting a lot of money. The money’s crazy.”Omaha’s additional responsibilities and McAfee’s role looks to increaseWhen compared to some of ESPN’s highest earners, such as Stephen A. Smith, who inked a five-year, $105 million deal with the network back in 2024, there is a stark contrast between that and McAfee’s potential deal. But that’s where the argument that the extra funds are as a result of additional production responsibilities forms. Omaha Productions is responsible for the broadcasting of the Manningcast – an alternate, and more casual, coverage of the NFL’s Monday Night Football, hosted by the Pro Football Hall of Famer and his brother Eli Manning. The deal with ESPN also includes Omaha producing podcasts and digital series for the network. Peyton and Eli’s ‘Manningcast’ for ESPN’s MNF coverage has been a huge successGettyMcAfee’s expected contract extension trumps ESPN’s deal with Stephen A. SmithGettyThis includes the production of video series for some of ESPN’s top talent including that of Scott Van Pelt, Brian Windhorst, and Mina Kimes. Omaha is also responsible for producing other ESPN shows, such as the ESPYs and NFL Honors. As for McAfee, the 39-year-old could yet be set to take on additional responsibilities outside of his titular show and seasonal role as a panellist on ‘College Gameday’. In fact, a signal of intent has perhaps already taken place. This came as McAfee delivered an alternate broadcast of Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. What else lies in store for McAfee remains to be seen, but it’s hard to turn down demands from ESPN when there is an offer of over $60 million a year on the table.
