The National Resistance Movement (NRM) officials have expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned to reclaim the Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament seat, citing strong grassroots support, improved party unity and the government’s development record in the island district.Speaking as the party intensified campaigns through village and parish meetings across Kalangala on Saturday, NRM Electoral Commission Commissioner Amb. James William Kinobe said the ruling party’s candidate, Idah Nabayiga, enjoys a significant advantage over her rivals.“We are performing exceptionally well because morale is very high and the people are excited. If you were to rate our candidate, we are already polling in the 80 per cent range,” Kinobe said. The remarks came as NRM teams fanned out across the district’s seven sub-counties following the launch of village meetings. The meetings are running alongside Nabayiga’s campaign trail, which kicked off in  Buwanga Sub-county.Kinobe said the party had overcome divisions that emerged during the primary elections and had since united leaders from village to district level behind a common campaign strategy. He argued that Kalangala’s development under the NRM government gives voters ample reason to support the party candidate.Former Kalangala LC5 Chairperson Daniel Kikola, who served the district for two decades, said the transformation of the island district over the years was evidence of government commitment.“By 1986, almost all the roads here were impassable. But as we talk now, almost every landing site has a motorable road leading to it,” Kikola said.He also pointed to expanded electricity coverage, improved ferry transport and the oil palm project, which he said had boosted household incomes and created employment opportunities.Kinobe said voters were increasingly recognising the need to elect a Woman MP aligned with the government to strengthen Kalangala’s representation.According to Kinobe, Kalangala already has two NRM Members of Parliament, and electing Nabayiga would give the district a united NRM caucus better placed to lobby for key projects, including a regional referral hospital, road upgrades and specialised Parish Development Model support for fishing communities. The party also cited recent electoral performance as evidence of its strength in the district, noting that NRM won the LC5 chairperson seat and the majority of council positions in the most recent local government elections. With campaigns running until June 22, NRM leaders say their village-to-village mobilisation strategy will ensure every voter is reached ahead of polling day.The post NRM Warming Up for Kalangala Woman MP By-election Race appeared first on The Insider.
