Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced that Parliament will reopen this Saturday 20th June, describing it as the shortest period between a general election and the opening of Parliament in Malta’s history.Speaking during an interview Abela said the move sends a clear message that the government intends to begin implementing its electoral manifesto immediately.He said the first pieces of legislation on the agenda will include reforms related to voluntary organisations, IVF regulations and the creation of a Commission for the Protection of Fundamental Human Rights and Civil Rights.Abela also revealed that during the first Cabinet meeting, ministers were instructed to begin work on delivering the Labour Party’s Int Malta manifesto without delay.Among the first decisions taken by the new administration was the protection of a large area of agricultural land in Bulebel, while the Prime Minister also highlighted plans to allow farmers to apply for and obtain title to the land they cultivate.The Prime Minister reiterated that electricity and gas prices will remain stable despite ongoing international challenges and pointed to Malta’s economic performance as a key factor behind the government’s plans.He also highlighted major projects earmarked for this legislature, including the Msida Creek project, the regeneration of the Grand Harbour and the Malta in Motion transport plan.Abela said improving the quality of life of Maltese and Gozitan residents will remain the government’s top priority throughout the legislature.•
