This week's column is highlighted by the victory of Cortina d'Amprezzo at Santa Anita.Nothing But LuckCortina d'Amprezzo (Lucky Vega) got the job done for trainer Phil D'Amato at Santa Anita on June 11 (video). The three-year-old filly races for Hopeless Stables, Little Red Feather Racing, Medallion Racing, McNulty Thoroughbreds, Veranda Stables, and Omar Aldabbagh.Bred by Mountarmstrong Stud, she changed hands for €26,000 as a Goffs Autumn yearling when picked up by Sean Grassick Bloodstock. Trained initially by Kevin Thomas Coleman for Tim and Jack Halley, the filly placed in both of her Irish starts last May and June, before transferring to these connections. Out of the juvenile winner Reflect Alexander (Kodiac), herself a relation to G1 Prix du Jockey Club winner-turned-sire Old Vic, Cortina d'Amprezzo is the last known foal, and fourth winner from four to race for her dam.The Irish National Stud's Lucky Vega, priced at €12,500 this season, has two winners from two runners in the U.S. Worldwide, the son of Lope De Vega is credited with five stakes winners ranging from New Zealand, Australia, the U.K. and Germany.Dubawi Filly Gets In On The Action In CanadaD.J. Stable's Majaz (Dubawi), second five times in seven U.K. starts, graduated at Woodbine on June 13 (video). Trained by U.S./Canadian Hall of Famer Mark Casse, the four-year-old filly was bred by Floors Stud and Coolmore Stud.An 450,000gns Tattersalls October Book 1 graduate, Majaz raced in the colours of Shadwell Estate Company for trainer Roger Varian. Sold for 45,000gns at the 2025 Tattersalls December Mares Sale, Majaz debuted for her new connections on Saturday.A granddaughter of the five-time Group 1 winner and dual Guineas heroine Attraction (Efisio) through her multiple graded stakes-placed dam Cushion (Galileo), Majaz is a full-sibling to the gelding Hafit, who was third in the G2 Queens Vase and G3 Zetland Stakes.Darley's former champion sire Dubawi now has 50 winners from 95 runners in North America. Twenty-six of those are stakes winners with 11 Grade I winners topped by In Italian, a four-time victress of the highest tier.Repeat WinnersPhil D'Amato trainee Darya joined the ranks of stakes winners with a tally in the Listed Honeymoon Stakes at Santa Anita on June 6 (video). The daughter of Persian King is raced by Little Red Feather Racing, Sterling Stables and Marsha Naify.Another new stakes winner for this column is also trained by D'Amato in Kentucky Gal (Churchill). The CYBT, Anthony Gemignani, Saul Gevertz, Michael Nentwig and Ray Pagano runner put her stamp on the Listed Possibly Perfect Stakes at Santa Anita on June 12 (video).On the East Coast, Program Trading (Lope De Vega) ran out a winner of the Listed Monmouth Stakes on June 13 (video). The three-time Grade I winner is trained by Chad Brown and bears the colours of Klaravich Stables.Repole Stable's Miwa (Siyouni) won a Churchill Downs contest on Saturday afternoon (video).
