Scotland should ensure that Scott McTominay closely marks Ayyoub Bouaddi against Morocco on Friday. That’s the view of their former midfielder Barry Bannan ahead of the upcoming World Cup test in Foxborough, Massachusetts.Bouaddi has already made a big impression at the World CupGettyA 1-0 victory over Haiti last week got Scotland off to a strong start in their first World Cup campaign since 1998.Next up are Morocco, who drew 1-1 with Brazil in their opening match with the help of breakout star Bouaddi. The 18-year-old made only his fourth international appearance but shone in the midfield during his tournament debut.Bouaddi currently plays for Lille but could be set for a summer move as both Arsenal and Liverpool have held talks over a transfer.Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also tracked the £60million-rated player, who is set to pose a threat to Scotland.Appearing on talkSPORT Breakfast, Bannan was asked how Scotland can stop Bouaddi as they look to seal a place in the knockout stages. The 27-time Scotland player said: “I think they’ll need to put someone close to him and be quite physical. “I watched the Brazil v Morocco game, I thought he was brilliant, he’s one of those players that catches your eye straight away. “He just wants touches on the ball constantly, he’s young and fearless, and takes the ball anywhere. “I think they’ll have to put a John McGinn or Scott McTominay quite close to him and try and get physical with him. Bannan has called for McTominay or McGinn to man-mark BouaddiGetty“If you let him have time and space on the ball, he can be a big, big problem.”McGinn scored the winning goal for Haiti and was joined in midfield by McTominay, who was below par compared to his usual standards. But the former Manchester United man has had a sensational two years at Napoli, where he has scored 27 goals and won the Serie A title.McTominay looks set to be given the nod against Morocco knowing a win would send them into the last 32.Tough test incomingMorocco are seventh in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings and the Africa Cup of Nations holders.Alongside Bouaddi, they have stars such as Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Diaz from PSG and Real Madrid respectively.Morocco will hope to knock Scotland off top spot in Group CGettyGiven they held on to draw against one of the tournament favourites in Brazil, they will most likely be a much tougher opponent than Haiti. However, Bannan believes this could work in their favour as there will not be as much pressure on them to get a result.“The performance against Haiti wasn’t 100 per cent what the boys would have wanted,” he explained.“But at the end of the day, I think the biggest thing about the Morocco game is they’ll be going in as underdogs, whereas the pressure was all on Scotland to go and win the other night. “They were favourites, and I think it suits them more when they’re sat in and counter-attacking and I think for large spells of the Morocco game, that’s what will probably be happening because they’re a top, top team. “So, I think it will suit Scotland a bit more going in as underdogs, and being able to sit behind the ball, have less of the ball and counter-attack.”World Cup WhatsAppDon't miss an update from talkSPORT in our dedicated World Cup WhatsApp channel.Search for ‘talkSPORT World Cup’ in your ‘Updates’ tab on WhatsApp and we’ll drop the proper, unfiltered football chat straight to your lock screen—no fluff, just pure talkSPORT energy. It’s where you’ll find out all the new rules to watch out for, England and Scotland reaction and big match player ratings.
