The Malta Police Force has issued a warning about a scam currently making the rounds on messaging apps and social media platforms. In a post shared on its official pages, the police alerted the public to messages asking recipients to “vote” for someone to help them secure a scholarship, usually accompanied by a suspicious link.Authorities stressed that the messages are fraudulent and urged people not to click on any links, even if the message appears to come from a friend, family member or someone they know.According to the police, scammers may use these links to steal personal information, gain access to online accounts or spread the scam further by compromising additional victims. The Malta Police Force advised anyone who receives such a message to avoid clicking on the link, refrain from entering any personal or banking details and verify the request directly with the person through another form of communication.Members of the public are also encouraged to delete the message and report the scam where possible.“Always think before you click,” the police reminded the public. If you’ve received one of these scholarship voting messages recently, it might be time to double-check before hitting that link.Share to raise awareness!•
