The US Open takes centre stage this week as Shinnecock Hills gets set to host the tournament once again. In 1896 Shinnecock hosted the second US Open, although it took 100 years for the site to play host once again. Since then, the tournament has been held at Shinnecock in 1995, 2004 and 2018, with Corey Pavin, Retief Goosen and Brooks Koepka claiming victory on those occasions.Measuring 7,440 yards, Shinnecock was notoriously difficult in 2018, with Koepka winning with a score of +1 eight years ago. The course is exposed to all of the elements and with small and heavily bunkered greens, another over-par score could be on the cards.Scottie Scheffler is the favourite to win the tournament and if so, he will become the seventh player to complete the Career Grand Slam in the process. The final round takes place on his 30th birthday and considering no golfer has won a major on their birthday, history is against the American this week.US Open Open betting tipsTommy Fleetwood to win and each-way @ 22/1Matt Fitzpatrick to win and each-way @ 25/1Ryan Gerard top-20 finish @ 7/2talkSPORT BET – Bet £10 and get £30 in free bets – CLAIM HERE* Fleetwood eyeing first Major titleTommy Fleetwood remains one of the finest active golfers on tour without a Major victory and the US Open is arguably the event where he has the best chance.Indeed, the Englishman has finished fourth, second and fifth in this championship dating back to 2017. His runner-up finish came when this tournament was last held at Shinnecock in 2018 and that should give him plenty of confidence as he returns to the venue.Having gotten rid of the “best player without a PGA Tour title” tag following his victory at the Tour Championship last year, Fleetwood is aiming for a maiden Major victory. He came close at the Memorial, leading with three holes to play, yet finished T4. Last week, Fleetwood secured a T11 finish at the RBC Canadian Open and he heads into the third Major of the year playing solid golf. Can he follow in the footsteps of Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick and become the third English winner since 2013? Only time will tell.Former champ Fitzpatrick in superb formFollowing a few low-key finishes, Matt Fitzpatrick roared back to form with a runner-up finish at the RBC Canadian Open last week.A stunning final round 64 ensured he finished just two shots behind winner Bud Cauley and this is the perfect preparation for Shinnecock.Fitzpatrick won the US Open in 2022 at the Country Club, although he hasn’t finished in the top-15 in the three tournaments since then.Nevertheless, the Englishman has three PGA Tour victories to his name this season, while he ranks fourth for Strokes Gained: Approach to Green and third for Strokes Gained: Total in 2026.The former could be a key metric in how Fitzpatrick performs this week, especially as the greens are small and guarded by plenty of bunkers. It would not surprise me to see the 2022 champion win another US Open, especially considering how well he has played this season.Gerard ready to make his markRyan Gerard has finished runner-up on the PGA Tour three times already this season, most recently at the Memorial a couple of weeks ago.Recently, we have seen JJ Spaun and Aaron Rai emerge from the pack to become first-time Major winners and Gerard has the talent to match those achievements. The American has been impressive with his approach play this season, ranking eighth on tour for Strokes Gained: Approach to Green and this should stand him in good stead at Shinnecock. He is odds of 100/1 to win the tournament this week, but backing him to finish in the top-20 at 7/2 offers plenty of value, especially given his recent performances.talkSPORT BET – Bet £10 and get £30 in free bets – CLAIM HERE**18+ New customers only.
