Teddy Sherringham and Chris Waddle are both far more pessimistic about Tottenham’s prospects next season than Roberto De Zerbi.Tottenham have made a fast start to the transfer window, having already brought three experienced Premier League defenders through the door.Sources say Spurs are targeting four more major signings this summer, with the Lilywhites attempting to give De Zerbi the tools he needs to get the club back where they belong after two successive 17th-placed finishes. It is certainly shaping up to be an exciting summer window for Spurs fans, but two of the club’s legends are not optimistic about a drastic improvement from the side next season.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramTeddy Sherringham and Chris Waddle expect Tottenham to miss out on top-six finishAccording to recent reports, De Zerbi believes Spurs can challenge for Champions League qualification next season if they strenthen their squad as planned this summer. However, neither Teddy Sherringham nor Chris Waddle even expect the Lilywhites to be in contention for Europa League qualification next season.Sheringham predicted that the top four will be similar to how it was last season and added to Boyle Sports: “Who knows what’s going to happen with Tottenham? Who knows what’s going to happen at Chelsea? Both clubs have huge question marks over them for me, and usually they’d be two of the sides you pick in the big six to put down straightaway. Next season is going to be a jumble.”Meanwhile, Waddle claimed that the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford are more likely to challenge for the top six than Spurs are. After saying that he expects the title race to be between Man City and Arsenal again, the former Tottenham midfielder added: “I think Aston Villa will come in third. Liverpool will finish fourth, Chelsea fifth and sixth could be a club like Bournemouth, Brighton or Brentford if one of them brings in the right three or four players this summer and hits the ground running.”Why Spurs can surprise a lot of people next seasonWhile back-to-back 17th-placed finishes paint a sorry picture, the reality is those finishes are not a fair demonstration of Tottenham’s quality. The club suffered debilitating injury crises both seasons and were not helped by the constant managerial upheavals and the lack of direction from the top.Given that De Zerbi has now been given the keys to the club and the fact that Tottenham have no European football next season, the Lilywhites are more than capable of being a surprise package.READ MORE: Midfielder scored a World Cup screamer just weeks after alleged £43m Tottenham bidThe post Spurs legends disagree with De Zerbi on what Tottenham can achieve next season appeared first on Spurs Web.
