Malta’s newly elected MPs gathered for their first official Parliament photo as the country’s new legislature formally got underway following the 2026 general election.The day began with a mass at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta before elected officials made their way to Parliament for the first sitting and swearing-in ceremony of the new legislature.Prime Minister Robert Abela was officially sworn in, while Alex Borg took the oath as Leader of the Opposition.Earlier in the sitting, Carmelo Abela was elected Speaker of the House, with former Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech elected Deputy Speaker.President Myriam Spiteri Debono also addressed Parliament, praising Malta’s democratic process and the peaceful transition that led to the opening of the new legislature.The official group photo brought together government and opposition MPs as Parliament begins a new five-year term following last month’s election.What do you make of this political lineup?•
