A seven-year-old boy’s death following bacillary dysentery or acute intestinal infection caused by shigella bacteria was reported from Kodur in Malappuram. The death of a 43-year-old man at Kodakara, Thrissur, on June 13 was also confirmed on Monday as due to shigellosis. Eight more cases—from Puthenthopu and Mukkola in Thiruvananthapuram; Poruvazhy in Kollam; Kodakara in Thrissur; Aliparamba in Malappuram; and Vadakara, Moododi and Kunnamangalam in Kozhikode— were reported by the Health department.
