Antonio Fresu, Phil D'Amato and Reddam Racing were the leading jockey, trainer and owner, respectively, at the just-concluded Santa Anita Hollywood meeting at the Arcadia oval.A native of Sardinia, the 34-year-old Fresu booted home 33 winners from 183 rides (18%), narrowly besting Armando Ayuso on 31 wins. Fresu, who shifted his tack to Santa Anita in December 2023, missed the first five weeks of 2026 with a left foot injury suffered on opening day of the season Dec. 28.“The year didn't start like we wanted to, so this is a nice achievement,” said Fresu, winning his second straight Hollywood Meet title. “My agent Ron Anderson has been doing an amazing job. And obviously thank you to all the trainers and owners who supported me, especially after the injury. They gave me the opportunity and I just tried to do my best.”Fresu's marquee wins at the meet were courtesy of Stronghold (Ghostzapper) in the GIII Triple Bend Stakes and with Almendares (GB) (Havana Grey {GB}) in the GIII American Stakes. Both horses are trained by D'Amato.For D'Amato, this marked his ninth time as leading trainer at Santa Anita, having also proved best at last year's Autumn Meet. D'Amato sent out 22 winners from 95 runners (23%) and also led all trainers with seven stakes wins, one more than runner-up Michael McCarthy.
