Hodgkinson then kneeled down on the track and wiped her tears away before standing back up and reluctantly walking off.It is not yet clear what happened to the 24-year-old, although it’s suggested she was experiencing tightness and didn’t want to make the injury worse.Her withdrawal at the UK Athletics Championships comes just two weeks after she set a new British 800m record. She didn’t win the race at a Diamond League meet in Stockholm, but she broke her own record with a time of 1:54.33.Hodgkinson appeared to be in strong form heading into Sunday’s action at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.However, the issue she suffered meant she could not race in the 400m final, which was won by Amber Anning.Anning won the race with a time of 50.16 seconds.Hodgkinson, an 800m gold medallist at the 2024 Olympics, had some injury troubles that disrupted her season last year. And her decision to pull out may have been made to help prevent a similar situation from happening this summer.
