The 2027 quarterback class will be stacked with talent, but the biggest name in college football could decide to stay exactly where he is.Arch Manning was once touted as a potential first-round pick in this year’s NFL Draft, but quickly put any speculation to bed by opting to return to the Longhorns for a second season as starter.Manning is tipped to be a top name in the 2027 NFL DraftGettyThe top player in the 2023 recruiting class, Arch is the nephew of two former No. 1 quarterback picks: Peyton Manning (1998) and Eli Manning (2004).His surname alone carries weight, and the talent he flashed with Texas in 2025 — racking up 3,163 passing yards, 26 touchdown passes and 10 more scores on the ground — has many expecting him to follow the family tradition and go first overall in 2027.Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian, though, isn’t so sure.Arch Manning returning to college for 2027 ‘would not be surprise’Redshirt junior Manning has not had any discussions about his senior season with his coach, but Sarkisian has suggested it wouldn’t be surprising to see the quarterback prospect stick around at UT for two more years.“We haven’t had the discussion, but I will tell you, I would not be surprised,” he told Kay Adams on the Up & Adams show.“I think Arch really loves college football, I really do. I think he loves the University of Texas.“He does pretty good through NIL, you know, he’s got some pretty good endorsements going right now, which is a credit to him and obviously the lineage of the last name and the brand of the University of Texas, all of those things coming together.“On the same token, I won’t be surprised if he declares and decides to go into the draft.”While Sarkisian admitted Manning is undecided at this moment in time, he suggested much of the final decision could come down to how his team plays in 2026, and the appeal of NIL.He continued: “I think some of that is dependent on how we play as a team this fall, how he plays individually. Knock on wood, injury-free football, things like that.Sarkisian believes Manning could stay at the Longhorns for the 2027 seasonGettyManning is preparing for his second season as starter in TexasGetty“That’s not our focus, our focus in on getting ready for the season. Getting ready for Texas State in Week 1, then Ohio State and so forth.“We haven’t had any dialogue about it, but I wouldn’t be surprised. He loves college, and again, he’s got some pretty good NIL stuff going for him right now.”Arch Manning could snub Browns with senior season at TexasIn Manning’s first year as starter, the Longhorns opened with a tough loss on the road to No. 1-ranked Ohio State, in what was the most-watched Week 1 game in college football history. The quarterback went on to lead Texas to a 10-3 record in 2025 (6-2 in SEC play) and while they narrowly missed out on a playoff spot, the expectation this year will be to at least make the field. While Sarkisian has hinted that Arch could stick around for 2027, NFL insiders are pretty convinced that he’ll be declaring for the draft.Pete Prisco of CBS Sports believes the chaotic Cleveland Browns could be in a position to ‘go get’ the third-generation Manning next April, following a blockbuster trade that sent star defensive end Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. Garrett was traded to the Rams in one of the biggest moves of the offseasonGettyHe even urged fans of the team to start watching Texas football in anticipation for Arch’s arrival. “They have a quarterback by the name of Manning down there and (Browns) owner, Jimmy Haslam, is very tight with the Manning family,” Prisco said.“I think this sets them up to go make the move if they have to next year to go get Arch Manning. And that’s how this trade will ultimately be judged.”Should he stay in college for another two years, the team that ends up with the top pick of the 2027 draft might be rather disappointed.Manning could snub the Browns, or any other team that has the top pick in 2026GettyMore often than not in recent years, the Browns have been in that conversation, but only time will tell whether they indeed end up with the No. 1 pick, and whether or not Manning is on the board.Stay up to date on all things NFL across our talkSPORT platforms – subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest news, opinion, exclusive interviews and our daily unfiltered, unscripted show ‘The S* Word, from 8am ET.
