Census 2027 is India’s first fully digital Census and one of the largest data collection exercises in the world. But behind the technology are millions of enumerators, many of them government school teachers, working in extreme heat, facing safety concerns, connectivity issues, app glitches and resistance from residents. This report explores the challenges of conducting a nationwide population count and what it means for India’s future planning and policymaking.
