Momentum leader Arnold Cassola has sharply criticised Prime Minister Robert Abela over the government’s handling of allegations that convicted prisoner Adrian Agius had access to a laptop, internet and Wi-Fi while in prison. In a statement, Cassola questioned why Abela is refusing to order a public inquiry into the matter, asking: “What is Robert Abela hiding about the forbidden laptop in prison?”Cassola went on to suggest there may be unanswered questions surrounding how the alleged access was permitted and whether all the facts have been made public.“Why is Robert Abela hiding the truth?” he asked, before questioning whether there could be information involving prison authorities that the government does not want disclosed. The Momentum leader also raised concerns about potential connections between legal representatives involved in the case, arguing that the Prime Minister should be prioritising transparency and accountability. The criticism comes after Cassola’s call for a magisterial inquiry into the allegations, arguing that an internal investigation by the Home Affairs Ministry is not enough. He has maintained that an independent probe is needed to establish how the alleged devices entered the prison, who facilitated their use and whether anyone benefited from the arrangement.Do you agree with Cassola?Image: Arnold Cassola•
