Conrad Borg Manché has formally resigned as a councillor on the Gżira Local Council following his election to Parliament on a Nationalist Party ticket. In a statement shared online, Borg Manché said the move was necessary as he cannot simultaneously serve as a Member of Parliament and a local councillor. The newly elected MP described the decision as one taken with “a degree of sadness”, noting that Gżira had become much more than simply the locality where he lived and served.Borg Manché thanked residents for placing their trust in him across three consecutive local council elections, allowing him to serve the community for 11 years, including nine years as mayor.Reflecting on his time in local government, he highlighted the campaigns to keep Manoel Island accessible to the public and the fight to protect the Gżira Garden as among the causes he is proudest of.He said that while the years brought challenges, sacrifices and pressure, the satisfaction of defending residents’ interests made it all worthwhile.Looking ahead to his new role in Parliament, Borg Manché said he now feels an even greater responsibility to represent residents at a national level.“I can continue speaking on your behalf, defending your interests and bringing what I learned from this community to a national level,” he said.He ended his message by thanking Gżira residents for their trust and support throughout his years of service. What do you make of Conrad Borg Manché’s move to Parliament?•
