High Class Jersey Stakes-Bound Green Sense Tops Goffs London Sale At £700,000

The Jersey Stakes-bound Green Sense (Starman) topped the Goffs London Sale in Kensington Palace Gardens on Monday evening at £700,000. That was despite the fact the Joseph O'Brien-trained Group 2 winner was led out of the ring unsold at £675,000 initially. However, a private deal was brokered during the sale, with Brittany Linton, chief executive of US outfit Boyd Racing, signing the docket. “David Redvers is a good friend and he gave us some advice and connected us to the owners,” said Boyd Racing's Randy Boyd.“We're very excited about her and looking forward to her running in the Jersey Stakes on Saturday. After that she'll probably come back to the US and run in Saratoga and be a turf horse there. We have a trainer in mind but I'd better wait to tell him first!”Green Sense has carried the colours of Simon Munir and Isaac Souede with distinction in seven starts for O'Brien. One of the highest-rated runners by Starman, she made a blistering debut at the Curragh last year before securing that famous Group 2 triumph in the Prix Robert Papin at Chantilly. Other notable performances include a third-placed effort behind Power Blue in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh. Boyd added, “Boyd Racing's strategy is to buy fillies who will go on to have great, successful careers and then be broodmares. Right now we have eight fillies and two colts. Most of them are up in Saratoga, and we have two older mares with Bob Baffert, Seismic Beauty and Splendora, who won the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint last year. We also bought Vahva at Keeneland in November and she was just bred to Not This Time. “We want to keep it small and have high-quality horses. We don't expect to be the biggest, but we want to be the best.” It was a good day at the office for Green Sense's former owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, as they also sold recent six-length Pontefract maiden winner Green Sovereign (Lot 2), who runs in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot on Wednesday, to Richard Ryan and Teme Valley Racing for £200,000. The two horses were originally sourced by Anthony Bromley on behalf of Munir and Souede at Goffs yearling sales on either side of the Irish Sea, for €90,000 and £40,000. “We're thrilled with the sale,” said Bromley. “They're both scopey horses and we felt there was still plenty of racing ahead of them. They had to make their money and they have done. I'm thrilled with the results. I think they're both going to run this week.”While Green Sense managed to find a buyer, fellow Jersey Stakes entrant Alparslan (Dandy Man) was unsold at £1 million. Britannia Stakes entry Bobby McGee (Mayson) was unsold at £575,000 while Immortal Guard (Persian King), Bamako Beach (Sands Of Mali) and Sky Watch (Starman) were other high-profile lots who failed to hit the mark at £495,000, £330,000 and £300,000 respectively. All told, just 11 of the 19 horses offered on Monday were sold with turnover reaching only £2,970,000. For context, the turnover 12 months ago was £8,070,000 for 20 lots sold while in 2024 the sale generated £8,395,000 in turnover for 15 lots sold.Commenting on Monday's edition of the sale, Goffs chief Henry Beeby said, “The 2026 London Sale was another enormous success in so many ways. Whilst the statistics are well behind last year, we don't measure this sale in the same way.  Normally, we obsess over percentage rises or falls but with the London Sale it is an entirely different approach.  Success at the London Sale is judged by the reaction of both vendors and purchasers and, by that measurement, we've had a very positive evening.“The top lot has been bought by a new entrant to European turf racing from the United States; the Queen of Australian racing Gai Waterhouse has got involved again as have Amo Racing, while Apollo were new entrants on the London buyer list.  We've been delighted to see the enthusiasm of all buyers for their London purchases, and we wish them the very best of luck at Royal Ascot and beyond.”He added, “The London Sale remains one of the most sought-after invitations of Royal Ascot week, and there was a fantastic atmosphere at Kensington Palace Gardens as we welcomed the who's who of international racing alongside guests of our luxury brand partners. I would like to extend our sincere thanks to our joint title partners, ULYSSIA and Fitzwilliam Sports, as well as our supporting partners Château Léoube, Ampito, Ascot Racecourse, Racing Post, France Galop and Hofmeister. Their support is integral to delivering an event of this calibre. We now look forward to a week of world-class racing at Royal Ascot and to following the fortunes of this year's London Sale graduates and those who have been sold at so many of our other sales.”The post High Class Jersey Stakes-Bound Green Sense Tops Goffs London Sale At £700,000 appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
