Sweden legend Tomas Brolin has weighed in on what Lucas Bergvall should do this summer after struggling for game time at Tottenham under Roberto De Zerbi towards the end of last season.Following a breakout first season at Spurs, Bergvall could not replicate the same performances last season, amid managerial upheavals at Tottenham. The attacking midfielder, who also had injury troubles, fell down the pecking order after the arrival of De Zerbi, who left the 20-year-old as an unused substitute in Spurs’ final two games of the season.Bergvall has played down his lack of game time under the Italian coach, insisting that Premier League survival was the only priority for everyone at Spurs.Credit: @thefrederikkejensen / InstagramTomas Brolin tells Lucas Bergvall to stay at TottenhamSpurs are expected to prioritise adding quality to their midfield over the coming weeks, which means that the Swede is going to have to deal with even more competition for places next season. However, Brolin has now told the youngster to remain at Spurs, confidently asserting that the Lilywhites will be better next season and opening that Bergvall is at the right club to continue developing. When asked if the midfielder should stay or leave Tottenham, the former Leeds United star told Hajper (as relayed by Football.London): “I am no agent. I am no advisor. He is good enough to handle it himself, but he has the potential. I like Lucas Bergvall as a player and Tottenham, yes, they had a crap year this year, absolutely, but I think many of us hope that they won’t have that next year. So Lucas seems to be settling in well at Tottenham, seems to thrive there.“Tottenham also had a lot of injuries this year, not just Lucas. There were many key players who were injured. There is no team that can handle that. It’s not easy to perform, that’s just how it is. Tottenham had an unlucky year with many injuries. So it’s just a matter of crossing our fingers for that team that they don’t end up in that situation.“So, The best thing for Lucas, who is still young, is probably to be in the same club and get to know them even better and develop there. So I don’t think it’s any major problem that Lucas remains at Tottenham and continues to develop into a fantastically good football player.”Bergvall will be keen on making his mark on the World CupThree different Sweden players have named Bergvall as the one who has impressed the most in training in the lead-up to the nation’s World Cup campaign. However, the Tottenham man did not start Sweden’s opener against Tunisia, coming on as a 65th-minute substitute as the Scandinavian side emerged with 5-1 winners.Bergvall will be keen to force himself into Graham Potter’s starting eleven and make his mark on the biggest stage in his first taste of a major international tournament. He would also be sending a clear message to De Zerbi by doing so.READ MORE: 15 Andy Robertson World Cup stats show Udogie’s starting spot is not safe at TottenhamThe post Lucas Bergvall is told whether to stay at Tottenham or leave by a Swedish legend appeared first on Spurs Web.
