Chairman Andrew Cavenagh said on Rohl: “I’d like to thank Danny for his service and commitment to Rangers.“He and his staff put in a significant amount of hard work during his time in charge, which we are greatly appreciative of.“We wish them the best of luck moving forward.”Salzburg were on the lookout for a new manager following the departure of Daniel Beichler.Beichler was axed after he led Salzburg to third in the Austrian Bundesliga, which secured them a berth in the qualifying rounds for next season’s Europa League.Rohl’s replacementRangers have moved quickly to bring in Rohl’s replacement – with the club looking close to home.Hearts boss McInnes was the club’s number one target following the club’s impressive 2025/26 season.View Tweet: https://t.co/gGfL9YAOvFRangers identified McInnes as their top target to replace RohlGettyHaving led the Scottish Premiership for most of the campaign, they ended up in second spot after losing away at Celtic on the final day.It will be a return to Ibrox for McInnes when he imminently takes the job – a role he rejected in 2017 – having spent five years at the club between 1995-2000.McInnes only joined Hearts in May 2025, winning 28 and losing seven of his 45 matches in charge across all competitions. And after being approached by Rangers at the weekend, he’s now set to take over with Rohl’s departure confirmed. The Gers have already raided Hearts once this summer, having snapped up Scotland international Lawrence Shankland.Shankland, who had been Hearts’ skipper, scored 88 goals in 171 games for the club between 2022-2026.Rohl ended the 2025/26 season without leading Rangers to any form of silverwareGettyRed Bull gives you wings… and jobsRed Bull’s football operations are led by Rohl’s compatriot and former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.Rohl is also no stranger to the Red Bull set-up having began his coaching career with RB Leipzig under Ralph Hassenhuttl, whom he followed to Southampton. As he is appointed as Salzburg’s new boss, it becomes his third managerial role, having previously led Sheffield Wednesday. The 37-year-old moved to Rangers after Russell Martin was sacked in October following a run of just five wins in 17 games.Rohl had initially turned down Rangers’ approach but had a change of heart after the Scottish giants’ talks with Kevin Muscat broke down. How did Rohl perform at Rangers? He took over with Rangers sitting sixth in the Scottish Premiership and helped them recover to be well in the title race alongside Celtic and Hearts.Rangers have now gone two seasons without silverwareGettyHowever, four defeats in their last five fixtures killed off any hope Rangers had of winning the league as Celtic emerged as winners on a dramatic final day of the season.Adding to Rohl and Rangers’ misery was the fact they were dumped out of the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup by Celtic.Rohl also oversaw a meek effort in the Europa League as Rangers finished the league phase in 32nd, meaning they did not qualify for the knockout play-offs.In total, Rohl won 22, drew seven and lost 11 of his 40 games in charge of Rangers last term.
