WATCH: Sen. Graham Says If Iran Deal Fails, USA Will Take Hormuz “By Force”Sen. Lindsey Graham issued a warning during a Sunday Face the Nation interview, saying that if President Trump’s new diplomatic effort with Iran fails, the United States will take control of the Strait of Hormuz by force.Graham made the comments while discussing the newly proposed Memorandum of Understanding with Iran, a deal that has already divided some Republicans and raised questions about whether Tehran can ever be trusted to follow through on its promises. The South Carolina Republican said he supports giving diplomacy a chance, but admitted that the memorandum is “problematic” and predicted it would ultimately fail.“I’d rather try diplomacy than take it off the table,” Graham said. “If you don’t have a diplomatic path through the MOU, then you have to go to war or some other form of coercion. Let’s try this. Let’s try a diplomatic solution. I think it’s going to fail.”Then came the real headline.Graham said that after spending four and a half hours with President Trump last week, he believes Trump’s next move would be to seize control of the Strait of Hormuz if the deal collapses.“If this deal fails, President Trump is going to take the Strait of Hormuz over by force,” Graham said, according to the transcript. “The United States will control the Strait of Hormuz. We’ll charge a fee for all those who go through to pay for the operation.”Graham added that if Iran tries to contest American control of the strategic waterway, the United States would “obliterate them.”The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important waterways in the world, serving as a chokepoint for global oil and energy shipments. Iran has repeatedly used the threat of closing the Strait as leverage against the United States and its allies in the region.Graham also argued that the collapse of the deal could open the door for a major expansion of the Abraham Accords, saying the Trump administration could get Saudi Arabia to join the agreement in 2026.“We’re going to expand the Abraham Accords in calendar year 2026,” Graham said. “We’re going to get Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords, which is the biggest change in 5,000 years in the Middle East.”Some Republicans and Democrats have already rushed to criticize the memorandum of understanding with Iran as an “Obama 2.0” deal. On the surface, the concern is understandable. Any agreement that gives Iran room to breathe should be treated with skepticism. But what many critics are missing is that this is not being presented as a permanent peace deal. It is a temporary, 60-day agreement—and that distinction matters.President Trump understands something the Obama administration never did: Iran does not respond to weakness, vague promises, or diplomatic fantasy. The Iranian regime responds to strength, leverage, and consequences. The difference between Trump and presidents like Obama is that Trump’s threats are not empty. Obama drew red lines and watched America’s enemies cross them. Trump makes threats that foreign regimes actually have to take seriously. So before critics dismiss this memorandum as too weak, too open-ended, or too similar to past failed Iran appeasement, they should understand the larger strategy. This is a temporary agreement that Trump still controls. If Iran violates it, abuses it, or uses it to stall, Trump is prepared to respond with force. The Patriot Perspective has recently switched its main platform from YouTube, and we would greatly appreciate it if you subscribed to us there.
