Disney World guests planning summer vacations in 2026 may want to double-check their dining plans sooner rather than later. Walt Disney World has now confirmed that two major restaurants will effectively disappear from the resort’s summer dining lineup, and one of them has already officially closed its doors. That is a big deal during one of the busiest times of the year. Summer trips already come with packed Lightning Lane selections, crowded walkways, and hard-to-get dining reservations. Losing two longtime restaurants only adds more pressure on guests trying to plan meals during their resort stays. The timing feels especially surprising, given that Disney World is simultaneously preparing for one of its most eventful summers in recent memory.Credit: DisneySummer 2026 Is Packed With New Disney World ExperiencesDisney is adding a huge number of new offerings across the resort this summer. In many ways, summer 2026 feels like a soft relaunch for several parts of Walt Disney World.Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting major attention thanks to the opening of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets. Over inside Galaxy’s Edge, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is also adding a brand-new Mandalorian mission featuring Grogu.Hollywood Studios is also preparing for the debut of The Walt Disney Studios area, along with The Magic of Disney Animation experience. Those additions continue Disney’s effort to give the park more all-day experiences beyond just a ride.EPCOT is also introducing Soarin’ Across America for a limited-time run tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Meanwhile, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will introduce Bluey’s Wild World as part of Cool Kid Summer beginning May 26.Disney is clearly giving guests plenty of new reasons to visit this summer. Still, while new experiences arrive, some popular offerings are quietly disappearing too.Credit: DisneyOne Restaurant Is Closed All SummerOne of the biggest dining losses this summer is Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The signature restaurant officially closed on May 11, 2026, for a lengthy refurbishment project. Disney currently plans for the restaurant to remain closed throughout the summer, with reopening not expected until sometime in August. That is a major loss for guests staying around Crescent Lake. Yachtsman Steakhouse has long been one of Disney World’s most popular signature dining restaurants, especially for adults looking for quieter table-service meals outside the parks. Its location near EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios also made it incredibly convenient for Yacht Club, Beach Club, and BoardWalk guests. Now, one of the area’s biggest dining anchors is temporarily gone during peak vacation season.Credit: DisneyAnother Dining Spot Will Soon FollowDisney also confirmed that the Grand Floridian Cafe will close for refurbishment beginning in mid-July 2026.Unlike shorter refurbishments Disney occasionally schedules during slower periods, this closure is expected to last until sometime in October. That effectively wipes the restaurant out for the remainder of the summer travel season.Grand Floridian Cafe may not always get the same attention as places like Cinderella’s Royal Table, but it has built a loyal following over the years. Guests especially love it for breakfast and brunch before heading into Magic Kingdom. The restaurant also gives Grand Floridian guests a more relaxed option compared to some of the resort’s more upscale dining locations. For many repeat visitors, it has become part of their yearly vacation routine.Credit: DisneyWhy Losing These Restaurants MattersRestaurant refurbishments happen all the time at Disney World. The problem here is timing.Summer is one of the busiest seasons of the year, especially for Deluxe Resorts like Yacht Club and Grand Floridian. Guests paying premium prices for those hotels expect convenient dining options nearby. When a major restaurant closes, reservations at surrounding locations become harder to secure almost immediately.Yacht Club guests will now compete for reservations at nearby spots like Ale & Compass, Flying Fish, and Beaches & Cream. Grand Floridian guests will likely shift toward places like Citricos, Narcoossee’s, and 1900 Park Fare. That extra demand creates a ripple effect across the entire resort.Even guests who are not staying at those hotels may notice fewer reservation openings overall during the summer months.Credit: DisneyPlenty of Disney World Restaurants Are Still OperatingThe good news is Disney World still has no shortage of dining options this summer.Inside Magic Kingdom, restaurants like Be Our Guest Restaurant and Cinderella’s Royal Table will continue operating normally. Both locations are still expected to remain among the hardest reservations to secure anywhere on the property. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant remains one of the park’s most popular table-service experiences. EPCOT guests can still visit Space 220, which continues to draw strong demand thanks to its immersive atmosphere. There are also countless other dining options spread across all four parks.Resort guests still have plenty of excellent alternatives, too. California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort remains one of Disney World’s signature dining experiences. Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge continues to be a fan favorite for both its food and savanna views.Nomad Lounge at Animal Kingdom also remains one of the best spots on property for guests wanting a quieter escape from park crowds.Disney Springs Still Offers Plenty of ChoicesDisney Springs will also continue serving as one of the resort’s biggest dining hubs this summer.Guests can still book popular restaurants like The Boathouse, Wine Bar George, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’, Morimoto Asia, and Raglan Road. For many visitors, Disney Springs may actually become an even bigger dining destination while some resort restaurants remain unavailable. The area also offers guests more flexibility, as many locations stay open later than restaurants inside the parks. That can be especially helpful during long summer park days.Credit: DisneyDisney World’s Summer Shake-Up Is Just BeginningDisney World clearly wants summer 2026 to feel exciting. New attractions, refreshed experiences, seasonal entertainment, and major additions are arriving across the resort over the next several months. At the same time, though, guests are also losing two iconic restaurants during one of the year’s e busiest vacation periods.Yachtsman Steakhouse is already closed until August, while Grand Floridian Cafe will soon disappear from the lineup until fall. For many longtime Disney guests, those closures will leave noticeable gaps in their vacation routines.Thankfully, Disney still offers plenty of dining alternatives both inside the parks and across its resort hotels. Guests may just need to plan reservations earlier than usual this summer as demand spreads across the remaining locations. The post Disney World Confirms Massive Multi-Month Shutdown for Two Iconic Restaurants This Summer appeared first on Inside the Magic.
