From Breakdown to Doji — Is Gold Building a Base or a Ceiling?GoldOANDA:XAUUSDEvan_PierceGold is currently caught between two forces: the “fear of rate hikes” driven by high oil prices is weighing on it, while geopolitical uncertainty is providing support from below. Yesterday’s dip-and-rebound was precisely the result of this tug-of-war. On the technical side, at the daily level, a doji formed yesterday, indicating balanced bullish and bearish forces. The overall uptrend channel remains intact, but there is clear selling pressure in the 4750–4770 zone above. At the 4-hour level: price is trading near the moving averages. The MACD histogram, after shrinking, has started to extend again. The 4650–4630 zone has been tested twice and both times was bought back up, confirming that short-term support is valid. This area can temporarily serve as a near-term “safety cushion.” At the 2H/1H level: price is at a critical decision point. In the 4680–4720 zone, bulls and bears are battling. The moving averages are starting to converge, with the shorter-term MAs turning downward — which will pose pressure on bulls. At the 30M level: the MACD histogram is expanding, and price is trading below the moving averages (meaning the MAs are all acting as resistance). If bulls want to push price higher, they still need to complete the conversion of resistance into support — by holding above 4712. On the pattern front: prolonged consolidation at high levels has caused candlestick patterns to keep switching between head-and-shoulders bottoms and double tops (or multiple tops). This undoubtedly increases trading difficulty, but it also creates opportunities for us — as reflected in our recent profits. At least so far, we are basically in a perfect winning streak. Given the current situation, if the 30M fails to form a bottoming structure, this trend will spread to higher timeframes and eventually change the daily chart structure. At that point, a sustained one-way decline could occur. We need to monitor this closely.
