I understand that fighting for custody of a child can be costly, but $50K for a lawyer when OOP hasn’t even started any proceedings is ridiculous. Not a consultation or deposit, but what he thinks is the estimated fee is from his own extremely knowledgeable experience. 🙄 And, he needs a lawyer who is $300/hr bc his ex gets free legal help, probably from legal aid, so it’s noooottt fair. OOP can’t give any information right now bc privacy concerns, but you should know his ex “doesn’t work and gets government assistance” and his ex is “putting up” lot so issues. No red flags here. No desire to pay less child support, no explanation on why his wife wants supervised visits, no discussion if he’s behind on child support, no discussion of his debt.
