I put my old Singer sewing machine on a local free group because I upgraded and this one still works, it’s just loud and ugly and has that weird beige plastic color all appliances had in like 1998. I wrote very clearly: free, pickup only, works but needs a new needle, comes with foot pedal and manual. A woman messages me within 4 minutes saying she wants it for her daughter who is “starting a slow fashion journey” which was already a lot but fine, cute hobby whatever. Then she asks if I can hold it until next weekend. I say sure. Then she asks if I can drop it off because she doesn’t like driving after dark. I say no, pickup only. Then she says ok but can I meet her halfway “near the smoothie place” because her daughter gets carsick on side streets. Again, no. This morning she asks for a video of it sewing. Fine, I send one. Then she says the machine looks “more intermediate than beginner” and asks if I have a simpler one I can give instead. I say no, this is the free machine. She replies, and I swear I had to read it twice, “can you at least include some beginner friendly fabric and thread so we dont waste time sourcing materials if it ends up being too hard for her?” Ma’am you are getting a functioning machine for zero dollars and somehow I’m now building a starter kit for a child I’ve never met. I told her I was moving on to the next person and she said “wow I thought this group was about community.” Anyway a guy picked it up 20 minutes later, brought his own box, said thank you, and left. absolute unicorn behavior apparently. submitted by /u/Jarrowick_41 [link] [comments]
