Rory McIlroy skips Scottie Scheffler’s champions dinner as lowkey menu revealed

Rory McIlroy was conspicuous with his absence at Scottie Scheffler’s PGA Champions Dinner last night.McIlroy laid on an extravagant meal at The Masters last month as the past Green Jacket winners gathered for the most exclusive dinner in sport.Scheffler hosted the 2026 PGA Champions Dinner on TuesdayThe PGA Championship – which gets underway at Aronimink Golf Club this Thursday – also has a long history of the previous year’s winner hosting his fellow past champions on the Tuesday of tournament week.This year Scheffler had the honour of picking the menu following his win at Quail Hollow 12 months ago.But while Scheffler donned his Green Jacket at Augusta for McIlroy’s big night, the world number two could not return the favour at Aronimink.McIlroy was forced to end his practice round on Tuesday early due to a troublesome blister on his right pinky toe.While the injury does not appear to put his participation in the second major of the year at risk, it seems McIlroy was resting his foot on Tuesday evening rather than attending the Champions Dinner.It is understood McIlroy will wear a toe separator, extra bandaging and a new style of footwear to aid the recovery of the blister this week.And as pictures emerged of Scheffler’s dinner, McIlroy was nowhere to be seen, opting to stay home instead.Scheffler hosted the other past winners at Aronimink and details of his menu have been revealed.The four-time major winner was criticised for the simplistic nature of his two Masters’ menus but he stayed true to form on Tuesday night, electing some modest fare yet again.Aronimink Executive Chef John Ferguson told CBS News: “He wants chicken parm.McIlroy is nursing an injured toe at the PGA Championship this weekGetty“So we’re going to use locally raised chicken, the highest quality chicken, and he wanted three flavours of gelato.”For what it’s worth, it’s understood those ice cream flavours were lemon, strawberry and raspberry.In attendance for the chicken parm entree were Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele, all of whom will be hoping to win the PGA Championship again this week.Padraig Harrington, Rich Beem, Jason Dufner, Keegan Bradley and Martin Kaymer were among the former winners also at the table.Schauffele had the honour of deciding the menu at Quail Hollow last May and went for a more lavish selection than Scheffler.The two-time major winner picked wagyu steaks, jumbo shrimp, clams casino and a duo of desserts.Scheffler is the defending champion at AroniminkGettyNow the dinner is done and dusted, the serious work of trying to win the Wanamaker Trophy can begin.McIlroy will be among the early starters for Thursday’s opening round, teeing off alongside Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm at 1:40pm UK time.Schauffele is in the preceding group, getting underway at 1:29pm with Koepka and Tyrrell Hatton.Scheffler, meanwhile, has been grouped with English duo Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose and the trio will hit their opening tee shots at 7:05pm BST.talkSPORT’s Gabbie Partington and Sean O’Brien will have regular updates from Aronimink throughout the week.
