The NFL’s broadcast partnership with Netflix continues to grow, but some fans aren’t happy with scheduling for the upcoming season.According to Austin Karp of the Sports Business Journal, the streamer on Wednesday confirmed it has revised its deal with the league to run through the 2029-30 season.Netflix will stream five NFL games in the 2026 seasonGettyThat change means Netflix’s deal now matches the same expiration as other rights holders, including Fox, CBS, NBC and Prime Video. In 2026, five NFL games will stream live on the platform. The Netflix slate begins with an international contest in Week 1, when the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams head to Melbourne, Australia. That game has forced the league to shake up its calendar and push the official season opener, which will be hosted by the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, to Wednesday night.Netflix will also broadcast the first-ever Thanksgiving Eve game, which will see the Green Bay Packers face the Rams on November 25.A month later, the streamer will carry two games on Christmas day, which it has done since 2024.The final Netflix game will come in Week 18, on January 9.While the full 2026 schedule doesn’t drop until Thursday night, two of the games that have been announced for the streamer have already caused a stir among fans.Netflix face backlash from viewers over Week 1 and Thanksgiving gamesSome claimed the league is ‘killing the golden goose’ by booking so many games across Thanksgiving week.“The NFL’s greed knows no boundaries,” one fan declared. “You’re going to have the NFL on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday… They’re killing the golden goose.”The Packers will play in the NFL’s first ever Thanksgiving eve game, against the RamsGettyAnother wrote: “Thanksgiving eve game? My turkey day is ruined already.”“An NFL game on a WEDNESDAY? (Roger) Goodell pretty much said f*** player safety,” a third said.Meanwhile, other fans argued changing the Week 1 schedule to shoehorn in an international game was ‘disgraceful’ — and that having so many different subscriptions is unaffordable.“Another platform to have games on. Isn’t four TV networks enough?” one asked of Netflix expanding its package.“We’ve lost the plot. Starting the NFL season outside of US soil is disgraceful,” a fellow fan claimed.“Please explain how this nonsense is better than normal broadcast American football on regular American television?” a third asked.Fans are worried that watching the NFL is becoming unaffordableGetty“Thanks for continuing to make the NFL worse,” a fourth concluded, sarcastically. With a five-game package, Netflix has deepened ties with the league in 2026.The platform’s co-CEO, Ted Sarandos, said this week that the strategy is not aimed at securing ‘whole season’ rights packages for any sports league at this moment. But things could always change, and Netflix broadcasting more and more NFL games each season seems inevitable.Stay up to date with the NFL across all our talkSPORT platforms – subscribe to our YouTube channel for the latest news, opinion, exclusive interviews and our daily unfiltered, unscripted show ‘The S* Word, from 8am ET
