/u/Eyeoftheleopard on Who'd like to provide me free 24/7 "light" elder care in exchange for staying in this twenty square foot spare room?

Wait 5 sec.

Oh hey guys. If this is dementia I honestly pity whomever signs up. Caring for a dementia victim is…challenging. Dementia affects its victims very differently, but hooo boy are you gonna be in for a ride. They can and do hit, bite, spit, scratch, curse, play with their feces and/or try to hand you a freshly acquired turd wrapped in a napkin (if you are lucky it is wrapped). You are asked the same question 10,000 times a day, and are asked things like “what I am supposed to be doing?” They start riffling through everything in the house with poop jammed underneath their fingernails , blow up the microwave, destroy the toaster, and leave the oven/stovetop on. They cannot be left alone for a second, and the recognition that you are a human being with feelings? That dies, as does empathy. There is no reciprocity-you give and give and give and give and they take take take take take. You explain things, they don’t understand, and ask again. Moreover, they will accuse you of stealing from them, beating them, and starving them. They will call the police and tell them the aforementioned. They get stuck in feedback loops, become highly agitated, and develop odd obsessions. They don’t sleep and do not recognize you as a person needing sleep, either. If you sit the door in an attempt to sleep they will relentlessly knock on your door to ask you where they are. Get ready and have fun! 🤤😵‍💫 P.S. You’ll find out what a poopacolypse is, something you never wanted to know.
