I actually feel bad for them. I'm in a power wheelchair, insurance covered it, but it was about $4k. It's kind of hard to get around with it, but our family is fortunate to have amazing in-laws who gave us their older SUV, so we were able to add the hitch receiver, and a wheelchair carrier. For this person, I don't think a bus would be practical, but there's also the fact that the hospital won't allow them to take the bus home from the surgery. At least every time I've had surgery the staff has me confirm that I have an actual ride, and someone with me, before discharge, even if it's a quick procedure.
