Man booked for using fake number plate on car to evade traffic challans in Hyderabad - The HinduPublished - May 13, 2026 12:58 pm IST - HYDERABADHyderabad Traffic Police and Attapur police have booked a 28-year-old man for using a fake vehicle registration number plate on his car to evade traffic challans and mislead enforcement authorities.The accused was identified as Syed Rizwan Ali, a resident of Upparpally in Rajendranagar, and originally from Karimnagar district.According to police, the case came to light during traffic enforcement checks conducted by Hyderabad Traffic Police. During inspection, officials found that the accused had affixed a fake registration number plate bearing number MH04KW7706 to a car.Police said the accused used the fake registration number with the intention of avoiding traffic violation fines and misleading government enforcement agencies. As a result, traffic challans generated for violations committed by the vehicle were reportedly issued against the actual registered owner of the number plate, a resident of Mulund West in Mumbai.Based on the findings, Attapur police registered a case under relevant provisions of the e Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.Police issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Further investigation is under way to ascertain the actual registration details of the vehicle used by the accused.Police use Automatic Number Plate RecognitionHyderabad Traffic Police warned that the use of fake, identical or tampered number plates is a serious punishable offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.
