The Nintendo headquarters in Kyoto, Japan, received a bomb threat, but the perpetrator has since been caught. The Minami Station of Kyoto Prefectural Police announced that it has arrested a 27-year-old unemployed man, who admitted to the charge of obstructing business by force. On May 16, 2026, he sent a letter to the Nintendo headquarters in the Minami ward of Kyoto, claiming that he had planted numerous bombs in the building. After receiving the bomb threat letter, Nintendo contacted the police, which then sent its staff to search around the area. However, the police did not find any suspicious objects or injured people in the vicinity. Although the police have since apprehended the suspect, it is still interrogating him for a more detailed motive. This was not the only time Nintendo’s activities have been obstructed by terror threats. The company received 39 threat messages sent via the website’s contact form throughout late 2023, which ultimately led to the cancellation of the Nintendo Live 2024 Tokyo event and the postponement of Splatoon 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe tournaments.
