ADPD has unveiled a new set of digital proposals focused on reducing bureaucracy, protecting citizens’ rights and preparing Malta for the growing impact of artificial intelligence. In a statement titled Digitalisation that serves society, the party said technology should make everyday life simpler, fairer and more accessible instead of leaving people behind.Among the proposals announced are better digital public services, stronger protection of personal data, investment in faster internet infrastructure and wider digital education.ADPD also called for stronger regulation of artificial intelligence, saying AI should “serve people and society” rather than operate without safeguards.Party spokesperson Luke Caruana said Malta and the EU should reduce dependence on large foreign tech companies and strengthen European digital sovereignty.“We believe that the EU must strengthen its digital sovereignty so that critical infrastructure, data and digital services are not controlled by foreign monopolies or external interests,” he said. The proposals also include investment in Maltese-language digital tools and platforms, as well as measures aimed at ensuring older people and vulnerable groups are not excluded from increasingly digital services.Do you think AI needs stronger regulation?•
