Around 85% of Maltese and Gozitan families owned their home in 2025, according to new figures published by the NSO.The figure marks an increase from 82% the previous year and represents a new national record for home ownership in Malta.According to the data, 122,403 families were homeowners in 2025, with around 91,757 owning their property outright without any loan attached.The highest rate of home ownership was registered among households made up of two adults with one child, where ownership levels exceeded 93%.The government said the figures show the impact of recent housing schemes aimed at helping more people become homeowners.Malta’s home ownership rate also remains significantly higher than the European average, which currently stands at around 68%.Parliamentary Secretary for Social Accommodation and Social Dialogue Andy Ellul welcomed the figures, saying they show how government measures helped more young people and families purchase property.Do you think owning a home in Malta is still achievable?•
