A new website launched to mark 100 years since the inauguration of the Chalet has teased a striking future for the former Sliema venue according to WhosWho.mtThe site depicts an underwater restaurant and club beneath the Chalet, where visitors could watch mermaid performers swimming among fish on the other side of glass panels.Similar concepts already exist in Norway, the Maldives and Dubai, though such a development does not appear to be planned for Malta at this stage.Carmelo Stivala Group was the only bidder for the redevelopment of the site, following a tender issued by government-owned Malta Strategic Partnership Projects Ltd.An evaluation committee initially recommended rejecting the bid, but this decision was overturned by the Public Contracts Appeal Board last year following an appeal by the group.A newly reconstituted evaluation committee is now set to reassess the bid before any planning permits are submitted.
