Recording and performing artist Kvan (Khabuya Vanessa Marion) has opened up about how she was sidelined from the “Guma Bakunyige” remix, a project that was eventually released by Recho Rey and Mun G without her participation.According to Kvan, the original version of the song had already been recorded by Recho Rey when a friend suggested that bringing Mun G onto the track would give it a wider reach and increase its chances of becoming a hit.Believing in the idea, Kvan says she played a key role in connecting Recho Rey with Mun G and hoped she would also feature on the remix. However, the recording session took an unexpected turn. She recalls that after Recho Rey and Mun G had recorded their verses, she was sent away on an errand just as it was about to be her turn to record.Upon returning, she was informed that the producer was too busy to continue with her part. To her surprise, the song and its accompanying video were later released without her.Kvan believes that the incident marked the beginning of the challenges she has since faced in the music industry.Someone advised me that we include Mun G on that project. So we found a way and connected with him, and he came to the studio. Recho Rey and Mun G recorded their parts, and when it was my turn, someone sent me somewhere. When I came back, they told me the producer was busy. Before I knew it, they had released the video. That was the beginning of my challenges in this game. The singer also reflected on the lessons she has learned from her experiences, warning fellow artists to be cautious about whom they trust within the industry.Honestly speaking, if you can, only deal with your friends who are outside the music industry. In this industry, you can never know who is competing with you or who is working against you. You might be writing for someone songs and helping them, yet they want to take what you have. That’s the biggest lesson I learned.Kvan further clarified that although she did not solely write songs for Recho Rey, she regularly contributed ideas and vocals to some of her projects. She claims listeners can still hear her background vocals on songs such as “Guma Bakunyige” and “Cheating,” adding that she was initially expected to be part of the former project before she was also left out.Benon Mugumbya states reasons for Zafaran’s Swangz Avenue exit, rubbishes conflict rumorsI didn’t write her songs, but I used to chip in. You can hear my vocals on songs like ‘Guma Bakunyige’ and ‘Cheating.’ I was supposed to be part of the ‘Guma Bakunyige’ project too, but I was sidelined. That was before I realized I was being used and then pushed out of the picture. The singer also alleged that she has experienced other forms of exploitation within the music industry, including situations where artists invited her to songwriting sessions, secretly recorded her demo ideas, and later used them without fully compensating her.“I’ve faced a lot—almost everything you hear about in this industry. There is a top artist who called me to write songs for them. As I played some of my demos, they secretly recorded them. They paid me for the song I wrote and the one I sold to them, but they also took my other demos secretly, dropped me off at home, and refused to pay my balance later.”Never trust a fellow artist. You never know who is competing with you or against you in this game. — Musician Kvan on her fallout with Recho Rey.#JikonkoneRewind pic.twitter.com/cplM54jA9B— Galaxy TV Jikonkone (@GalaxyTVUg) July 1, 2026The post Kvan claims she was sidelined from Recho Rey and Mun G’s ‘Guma Bakunyige’ remix appeared first on MBU.
