EFL club re-sign two players 24 hours after officially releasing them

Cambridge United have confirmed that both Shayne Lavery and Shane McLoughlin have re-signed for the club.Both Lavery and McLoughlin had left the EFL side following their successful promotion campaign with their contracts officially coming to an end on Tuesday June 30.Lavery is one of two Cambridge players to have re-signed for the clubGettyHowever, The U’s have since confirmed both McLoughlin and 19-cap Northern Ireland international Lavery have made a triumphant return 24 hours later.“It [a return] was always a possibility. There was just a bit of waiting time, but I am buzzing to still be here and can’t wait to get going,” Lavery told the official Cambridge site.“The gaffer and the staff found a good way of managing my minutes and I am looking forward to staying fit, scoring goals and helping the team.”And McLoughlin, upon re-signing for the League One side, said: “It was something that was left open at the end of last season as something we could revisit, and thankfully it’s gone that way.“I loved last year – it is proper close between the staff and the players and I wanted to stay and be a part of it.”Head coach Neil Harris, meanwhile, stated he was ‘very, very pleased’ Lavery had re-signed and ‘delighted’ to be able to call on McLoughlin.And it’s been a hectic period for Cambridge, who also confirmed that Gassan Ahadme had returned to the Abbey Stadium on Wednesday, joining on a season-long loan.“I am really happy to be back. I have good memories of the season I had here, but I am trying to hit new levels and I am expecting a lot of myself,” the striker told the club’s official website.“I want to hit the ground running and show what I am capable of.
