Preston North End have seemingly missed their chance to trigger a deal for Tottenham’s Alfie Devine, despite activating their purchase option.Devine enjoyed a breakout season on loan at Preston in 2025-26, registering 14 goal contributions for the Championship club.As part of the loan deal, Preston were offered a £4.5m option to buy the Tottenham youngster permanently this summer.It emerged last month that the Championship club had activated their option to purchase Devine, but they still had work to do to convince the player to join.Credit: Tom Cusden / @cusdenPreston North End have not concluded a deal for Tottenham starlet Alfie DevineLancashire Post confirmed this week that Preston activated the purchase option for Devine at the end of May, revealing that the fee is worth £6m including add-ons.Any deal would have seen the Championship side triple their transfer record to take the Tottenham youngster to Deepdale.However, the publication explained that the transfer was not yet completed, with Preston still needing to negotiate personal terms with Devine. The club had until July 1 to wrap up the overall deal before the clause expired. However, the report added that Spurs’ £6m asking price is not expected to change even after the deadline.
