M7 Ordered NTV Siege-Says Minister Lumumba

Wait 5 sec.

By Mulengera ReportersIn a Tuesday media statement, the Information & National Guidance Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba clarified that the Sunday morning raid and siege by the security forces at NMG media premises was ‘instituted’ by the President Gen YK Museveni. In a three paragraph media release, Lumumba asserted that ‘a security-led inquiry’ had been authorized resulting into ‘disruption of operations’ at the country’s leading and most respected independent media establishment. Calling for calm while promising to keep the country updated, Lumumba revealed that “the [ongoing] inquiry involves the Uganda People’s Defense Forces [which Gen MK leads as CDF], the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Uganda Police Force, other security agencies and experts.” Kasule Lumumba’s statement, introducing the President into the circumstances surrounding the raid over which Gen MK continues to endure condemnation globally including from Senator Jim Risch who chairs the all-powerful Foreign Relations Committee of the US Senate, will have the effect of creating some breathing space and relief for Uganda’s larger than life Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) who spent much of Sunday bragging and congratulating himself for having single-handedly crippled the NMG Uganda and brought it to its knees. There had also been a lot of pressure on Kasule Lumumba calling on her to assert herself and claim back her operational space plus the legal mandate, along with that of UCC which by law is mandated to regulate such media broadcasting operations as NTV was involved in.
